ABOUT THE ARTIST

Cindy Podgorski delivers story-telling imagery like a mystic dealing from a deck of Tarot cards. Her paintings are a convergence of mystical and spiritual—sometimes unsettling, sometimes humorous, sometimes haunting. Her use of color has evolved to the point that it’s more than mere ambiance but rather a statement in and of itself.

Cindy was born in Warren, Michigan, on November 18, 1975. Her father is German, and her mother is Mexican. She has lived in all three countries and now splits her time between her home/studio in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and her home/studio near Mexico City, Mexico.

While a hobbyist of the arts from an early age, Cindy traces her artistic breakthrough to a seismic event that changed her life. One morning, in 1991, she awoke and found herself both ambidextrous and able to perform mirror writing (she could write backward). That moment gave birth to the symmetrical art style she utilizes to this day.

Cindy’s medium is paint—from spray to oil to acrylic—her chosen surfaces: wood and canvas.

Cindy refers to the characters and themes of her works as “Messengers.” Viewers are presented with myriad archetypical imagery, which includes: numerology, Buddha, Maneki-neko (the beckoning cat), the Trickster, as well as a host of otherworldly beings and symbolism that both amuse and assail the senses.

“In the beginning, my Messengers were presented in mostly earth tones—in rather somber and muted shades. Today, they’ve become colorful arrays; you might say they’ve shed the dark and have emerged into the light.”

There is no doubt—as her recent foray into exalted sunrays reveal—Cindy’s work is a manifestation of the supernatural and sublime.

Cindy has exhibited her works throughout South Florida (group shows and solo exhibitions). She has also received local and international press.
